Driver support at the border

Early 2024 Global Empowerment Mission Europe, in cooperation with The Howard G. Buffett Foundation, provided direct support to Ukrainian lorry drivers facing lengthy delays at several border crossings between Poland and Ukraine.

Since the end of 2023, thousands of Ukrainian drivers have experienced very long waiting times - sometimes lasting several days or even weeks - due to protests, logistical disruptions and increased traffic at the border. Such long stopovers created difficult conditions, as many drivers had limited access to hot meals, hygiene products and basic supplies.

To respond to this situation, our teams operated at border crossings in Medyka, Hrebenne, Dorohusk and Korczowa. We distributed hot meals and family support kits, containing food, water, hygiene products and other essentials. In total, we supported more than 2,250 drivers.

This mission was part of our ongoing commitment to respond quickly and effectively to humanitarian needs in the region. By providing practical assistance on the ground, we sought to alleviate the difficulties faced by professional drivers who play a key role in maintaining critical supply chains at a time of ongoing instability in the region.
