24 June 2026 The northern coast of Venezuela was hit by one of the strongest earthquakes in the country's history. Two strong tremors with a magnitude 7.2 and 7.5, which occurred in quick succession, caused extensive damage in the states Yaracuy, Carabobo and La Guaira, as well as the capital city – Caracas. Residential buildings and public facilities collapsed, road and energy infrastructure was damaged, and thousands of residents were forced to leave their homes.
In response to the disaster, the team Global Empowerment Mission Europe is already on its way to Venezuela. Together with teams from other GEM branches and local partners, we are launching humanitarian actions aimed at reaching the most affected communities with aid as quickly as possible.
The first stage of the mission will focus on identifying the most urgent needs and organising the distribution of humanitarian aid. Plans include delivering food, drinking water, hygiene products and other essential items to families affected by the earthquake. The efforts will be carried out in cooperation with local communities and churches, so that aid can reach those who need it most.
Despite the passing of subsequent days, the situation in many regions remains very difficult. Rescuers are still conducting search and rescue operations, and damaged infrastructure is making it difficult to reach parts of the towns. The scale of the destruction means that Many families are left without access to basic necessities and require immediate support.
Global Empowerment Mission has been providing assistance to victims of natural disasters around the world for years. In Venezuela too, our priority is to quickly and effectively reach those most in need and support local communities in the initial days following this tragedy.
