In August 2023 Slovenia experienced the most tragic flooding in its history. The disaster, which lasted more than a week, affected almost 85% country population, destroying roads, bridges, houses and entire neighbourhoods. Losses were estimated at over half a billion euros, and in some places the infrastructure has literally been wiped out.
In response, the team GEM Europe has mobilised, to support affected communities both through direct humanitarian aid and by supporting local shelters for flood victims. Our activities focused on the worst-affected areas, where help was most urgently needed.
W Črna na Koroškem GEM Europe provided emergency assistance, including family first aid kits, suitcases for evacuees and new clothing, helping residents who have lost their possessions to regain basic comfort and a sense of dignity. W Ravne na Koroškem we have provided similar support to displaced families, ensuring that they have access to essential items during the critical reconstruction period.
All activities were carried out in close cooperation with local authorities, whose coordination and expertise enabled us to respond effectively and reach out to those most affected. Together, we ensured that aid was not only rapid but also responded precisely to the real needs of the population.
