Flooding in Vietnam

In September 2024 South-western Poland was hit by catastrophic flooding caused by Storm Boris. The provinces most severely affected were Lower Silesia and Opole, where homes, roads and key infrastructure were destroyed. It was the most serious natural disaster in the region in decades, which resulted in the deaths of at least 27 people, and thousands of residents were evacuated. For many families, the consequences were long-lasting - loss of livelihoods and homes that were uninhabitable.
Global Empowerment Mission Europe responded within 24 hours of the floods. Thanks to our operational infrastructure - a warehouse near Warsaw and a fleet of delivery vehicles - volunteers were able to mobilise quickly and deliver aid directly to the most affected villages. To reach the cut-off communities, we worked with local fire brigade units, Territorial Defence Forces, emergency coordinators and village heads. These partnerships made it possible to move efficiently in devastated areas and direct support to where it was needed most.
As part of the assistance, we provided food, drinking water, hygiene products, clothing, blankets, cleaning products and equipment to dry flooded buildings. We also distributed gift cards, which allowed families to meet their immediate needs and retain a certain level of choice and autonomy during the reconstruction process.
In addition, we provided larger household equipment to help families start rebuilding their damaged homes. These included. furniture, mattresses, kitchen appliances and other key items. This phase of the mission was made possible thanks to the support of many partners, including organisations Der Hafen Hilft, which donated household equipment significantly strengthening our ability to respond.
The total value of support given to the victims amounted to PLN 1,072,838..
